This is an original 1862 two-page (one double-sided page) black and white in-text wood engraving of various Victorian fashions for women and children: Fig. 1 a breakfast cap; Fig. 2 a coiffure for evening; Fig. 3 a headdress for home wear; Fig. 4 a chemisette for a surplice dress; Fig. 5 a sleeve treatment; Fig. 6 a chemisette; Fig. 7 a Mathilde fichu; Fig. 8 a petticoat for a little girl; and Fig. 9 a little girl's walking dress made of buff pique and trimmed with white braid. This 150+ year old Item is rated Very Fine ++. No creases. No natural defects. No tears. No water damage. There is some light bleed-through from the printing on the verso.

A must for every fashion-conscious young lady during the mid-to-late 1800's was a subscription to GodeyÕs LadyÕs Book. Published by Louis A. Godey from 1830-1878, it was the most widely circulated magazine in the period before the Civil War and it continued to be a leading American womenÕs magazine until it ceased publication in 1898. GodeyÕs was known for its beautiful (and costly) hand-tinted engraved fashion plates which were often cut out and framed by the young women who bought the magazine.
