This is an original 1870 hand-colored copper engraving of the dress of French women during the reign of Charles le Chauve (Charles the Bald, Charles II) during the 9th century in France.

Period Paper is pleased to offer a rare and well-preserved collection of original hand-colored copper engravings, on heavy paper stock, of the historical costumes and fashions of France from the 5th century to the Second French Empire. The work of Pauquet Frres, these engravings include both historical figures as well as historical regional and national dress. Engravings like these are highly collectible not only for their subject matter, but also for their exceptional color saturation and the high quality of the detailed brushwork. Please note that the original copper plate impression is visible on many of these engravings.
