This is an original 1870 hand-colored steel engraving of the latest Paris fashions for September 1870. From left to right: house dress of buff foulard with a long plain skirt and a crimson sash and bow in the back; evening dress of light-blue silk with a white muslin overdress, a deep plaited flounce of white muslin and a blue train covered with a white muslin upperdress trimmed with blue ribbon rosettes; walking dress of silk trimmed with six narrow-pointed flounces separated by a deeper flounce, black silk casaque trimmed with black guipure lace and a blue silk bonnet trimmed with black lace; walking dress of poppy-colored cashmere trimmed with six narrow ruffles and four plaited ruffles, a black silk shawl-shaped overskirt and a poppy-colored cashmere tunic with a black bonnet trimmed with poppies; dress of lilac grenadine over lilac silk with three deep ruffles, the tunic or overskirt is looped up with bows.
