This is an original 1872 black and white wood engraving of a sketch by English novelist William Makepeace Thackeray (1811-1863) entitled "Mr. Altamonts Evening Party--Mr. Yellowplush Brings Refreshments to the Ladies." The Yellowplush Papers were a collection of comic sketches about the antics of "'umble footman" Charles Yellowplush in the early 19th century.
