This is an original 1873 halftone print of a Self-Centering & Self-Releasing Gauge Lathe, manufactured by T. R. Bailey & Vail of Lockport, New York. This machine was built upon a very heavy iron frame, and is perfect in all parts, it is not liable to get out of order, while it turns very rapidly and notwithstanding is quite easy to manage. Three sizes are made, turning 7 1/2, 4 1/2, and 3 1/2 feet in length, the later being especially adapted for broom handles, and provided with countershaft, hangers, etc., tight, and loose pulleys. The pulleys are 8 inches in diameter, and should run about 520 revolutions per minute.
