1873 Wood Engraving Captain Portrait Sydney Buddington North Pole XGXC4

This is an original 1873 black and white wood engraving of a portrait of Sydney O. Buddington. Buddington commanded many whaling voyages in his day, but his claim to fame was that he commanded the George Henry. He was brought on board for the Polaris expedition due to his navigation skills in pack ice and Arctic waters.

This 138+ year old Item is rated Very Fine / Fine. Light aging throughout. No creases. Minor print defect - left side. No surface rub. No tears. Light water staining. Please Note: There is a blind emboss in the upper right corner and light moisture wrinkling throughout the image.
