This is an original 1873 black and white in-text wood engraving of an illustration by H.M. Vaughan Hughes that depicts the central-battery ironclad HMS Hercules of the British Royal Navy (RN) ramming into the Minotaur-class armoured frigate HMS Northumberland during a gale in 1872 off the coast of Funchal, Madeira, Portugal during the Victorian era.
