This is an original 1874 black and white in-text wood engraving of an illustration by J.R. Brown that depicts a transverse cross-section of the swinging cabin of the experimental cross-Channel passenger paddle steamer known as the SS Bessemer or the "Bessemer Saloon" that was designed by English engineer, Sir Henry Bessemer (1813-1898) to combat the symptoms of sea sickness. The ship was built by Earle's Shipbuilding in Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom (UK) in 1875 during the Victorian era.
