This is an original 1875 black and white wood engraving of Alexandria, Egypt. The city was home to the Lighthouse of Alexandria (one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World). Alexandria is now a major center in the international shipping industry. In fact, 80% of Egypt's imports and exports are served through this sea port. In the distance the minarets of mosques and madrasas can be seen rising above the city.
