The memorial honors distinguished Germans, and is named after Valhalla of Norse mythology. A few people honored at the memorial include Jan van Eyck, Jakob Fugger, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Otto von Guericke, and Johannes Gutenberg, as well as dozens of others.
