This is an original 1883 black and white photolithograph of "Hudibras Encounters the Skimmington", the seventh in a series of twelve engravings by William Hogarth (1697-1764) that illustrated Samuel Butler's mock heroic narrative poem entitled, "Hudibras". This piece depicts Sir Hudibras mistaking a town festival for an "unholy", anti-Christian ceremony.
