This is an original 1884 black and white relief line-block print that depicts Dr. Elisha Kane's ill-fated ship, the
USS Advance, caught in drift ice during an arctic expedition. After disease and food shortages began to take their toll, Kane decided it was best to trek back to the Danish settlements located in southern Greenland.
