This is a rare original 1888 color chromolithograph which features two incredibly ornately carved and sculpted wooden cabinets from the 16th and 17th centuries in Europe. Such items of furniture were highly prized in France during the late 16th century, influenced by the Italian Renaissance and therefore covered with elaborate reliefs. The cabinet on the right is actually English, and stands approx. 1.75m tall. It dates back to the later half of the 16th century and originates from the Abbey of Saint Gall. On the left is a piece typical of French carpentry greatly inspired by the Renaissance artists, much more fine and delicate in nature, most likely designed to be used a dining room as a place to keep silverware and dishware.
