1888 Chromolithograph 17th Century Furniture Bedroom Chair Costume Dress LCH4

This is a rare original 1888 two-page color chromolithograph set (two single-sided pages) which portrays some of the different styles of bedchambers and furniture used during the 16th and 17th centuries in Europe. Please see additional image for more illustrations.

Key Elements in Each Plate

FA - Top - A Flemish bed, wardrobe and dresser which are all carved of oak, end of 16th century - Bottom - Venetian chair from the 16th century - Two French chairs from the 17th century.

FD - Top - A comical Dutch scene in which a poor guest receives the "royal treatment," mocking the absurd routines of King Louis XIV - A lady being attended to by her hand-maiden during the morning toilette, while in the background the four poster bed is covered because its sheets have not yet been made - Bottom - A couple arguing beside a richly decorated four poster bed - A n infant's cradle designed to rock back and forth - A similarly decorated four poster bed to the previous one, women sit around waiting for the reclined lady to go to sleep, some have brought sewing to do while they wait.
