This is a rare original 1888 color chromolithograph which portrays some of the fashions visible in France during the 17th century.

Key Elements in Each Panel

Top - 1. Gentleman wearing his clock off one shoulder - 2. Church wear of a widow, with a high waist, extended sleeves, and a veil - 3. French gentleman making a rude gesture intended to offend the Spanish - 4. Gabon, a coat thrown over the shoulders in a haphazard fashion - 5. The Christian Amazon, Lady Alberte-Barbe of Saint-Baslemont, who was a heroine of the Thirty Years War. While her husband was away fighting, she dressed in men's clothing to protect her people from the various enemies ravaging through Lorraine.

Bottom - 6. Gentleman stylishly wearing his clock on one shoulder only, and dainty shoes which were not usually worn outside - 7. Gentleman in a short clock, stroking his long beard - 8,9,10,11. Various styles of clocks, hats, pants, and boots that were in vogue at the time.
