This is an original 1888 color chromolithograph which depicts two very different games played in 18th century Spain, as well as the varied costumes worn during that time period. In the upper panel, two gentlemen race each other on stilts while musicians play pipes beneath their feet. A circle of slightly more upper class ladies and gentlemen has formed in the lower panel, with a blindfolded center victim attempting to tap one of them with a spoon. This lighthearted pastime was known as Del Cucharon, or The Spoon Game. Both sexes are wearing outfits derived from French and Italian trends, which demonstrates where some of the epicenters of European fashion were located at the time.
