"Evening News at Shottery."

This is an original 1892 photogravure of three old village women (sharing the local gossip?) at Shottery in Warwickshire, England. Note the impression of the printing plate.

Period Paper has obtained a lovely collection of lithographs and first-impression photogravures of the landscape and architecture of late-19th century Warwickshire-- the rural county in the West Midlands region of England famed as the birthplace of William Shakespeare. The lithographs in this collection are tipped-in on a heavy mounting stock. The photogravures are first impression and the impression of the printing plate is visible. (The first impression printing of a photogravure produces the clearest and most detailed image and is highly sought after by collectors.)
