This is an original 1893 etching (individually hand-painted) of The House and Church of St. Francis in the ancient city of Damietta.

Damietta is a main sea port intersecting the Nile and the Mediterranean Sea. The city was known as a great naval base during the Abbasid period. Damietta was often the center of attacks for its proximity to the Nile.

CONDITION

This 118+ year old Item is rated Near Mint / Very Fine. Light aging throughout. No creases. No water damage. This 5 x 7 inch etching is mounted on its original fiber board measuring approx. 10.5 x 8 inches (note: there is printing on the reverse of the mounting board). The etching is in spectacular condition and would look stunning framed. (Please note that any aging in the outer margins is more pronounced in the digital image than on the actual item. In addition, the brilliant gold gilt appears dull brown in the digital image.)
