"Knaje (S. Josephi domus et paroecialis ecclesia). Ancient city of Knaje. The House and Parochial Church of St. Joseph in Knaje."

This is an original 1893 etching (individually hand-painted) of the House and Parochial Church of St. Joseph.

In 1878, sixty Schismatic Armenian families, along the Oronte River, were in the Apostolic Delegate of Syria and were to be received into the Catholic Church. A missionary was sent, but the Schismatics did not accept the new influence and dispatched the missionary immediately. They persecuted and imprisoned many of the converts, but the conversion efforts increased and overcame. A small church made of bricks solidified by the sun's heat was erected; however, it could not withstand the harsher elements of nature, thus a stronger church and presbytery were constructed.

Period Paper is pleased to offer an extraordinary and rare collection of original etchings of the Holy Land including Syria, Cyprus and Egypt. Created to document the history of the Franciscan missions in the Holy Land, these etchings provide an excellent historic visual record of the landscape, architecture, and people of Palestine and the Middle East. Each individually hand-painted etching (from a photograph) is mounted on a thick fiber board with a stunning decorative design lithographed in rich gold gilt. These museum-quality etchings are impossible to find anywhere.

Accompanying each original etching is a digital print (for reference) of the description of the image in English, Latin, French, Italian, and German. (Please see both images.)
