This is an original 1895 halftone print of "Divertissement champêtre ("Das Liebesfest,") by Jean Antoine Watteau.

The Fête champêtre was a prominent form of social entertainment (similar to a garden party) during the 18th century. It usually included entire orchestras hidden within the trees and guests often dressed in very fancy attire.

Jean Antoine Watteau (1684-1721) was most recognized for his French Rococo style, as well as his aristocratic genre paintings, theater set design and war and military scenes. Watteau studied under Claude Gillot and Audran, as well as others. Later, he was commissioned to paint scenery for the Paris Opera.
