1896 Print Caton Woodville Battle Leipzig War Sixth Coalition Lutzow Free XEGA9

This is an original 1896 black and white halftone print of the Prussian volunteer Lützow's Free Corps entering the city of Leipzig after helping to remove Napoleon's army. The Battle of Leipzig, or the Battle of Nations, was the largest land battle in European history until World War I, involving over 500,000 men and over 2,500 artillery pieces from France, Prussia, Russia. Austria, and Sweden. Greatly outnumbered, Napoleon was forced to leave the city across the Elba river, allowing the Sixth Coalition to claim it for themselves, to the delight of most of the citizenry.
