This is an original 1898 black and white halftone print of Sir Walter Raleigh, an English writer, poet, soldier, politician, spy, and explorer, who is best known for popularizing tobacco use in England during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. His name was also immortalized in the tobacco heavy state of North Carolina, which named their capital Raleigh in his honor.
