This is an original 1900 black and white photogravure of Barbara Palmer, 1st Duchess of Cleveland who was a mistress of King Charles II and was given many nicknames including "Uncrowned Queen" and "The Curse of the Nation." She was said to be the most influential of all of the King's mistresses and reportedly the most foul tempered of them as well. Barbara is portrayed here as Lady Britannia.
