This is an original 1903 halftone print of the Alexander Sarcophagus, an elaborate coffin decorated with a bas-relief on one side of Alexander the Great battling Darius at Issus. Similar to the famous mosaic at Pompeii, it was also thought to have been an interpretation of a lost original painting by Philoxenos of Eretria.

This item is from a limited edition collection of important historical prints of Ancient Egypt produced in 1903. The edition size produced at that time was out of 1,000 and this collection of prints was numbered 763. The edition and number are not present on the individual item but rather was provided for the collection as a whole.
