This is an original 1906 black and white halftone print of artwork that depicted Polish insurgents fighting against soldiers in the Tsarist army at the Battle of Miechów in Malopolska, Poland, Europe on February 17, 1863 during the January Uprising that was fought between the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Russian Empire from 1863-1865. The Battle of Miechów is famous in part for being the first military engagement of the "Zouaves of Death" unit that was commanded by French officer, Colonel Francois Rochebrune.
