1906 Print Johannes Vermeer Genre Scene Pregnant Woman Read Letter Dutch XGI6

This is an original 1906 halftone print of a piece by Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) entitled here as "The Reader" but also commonly known as "Woman in Blue Reading a Letter." In addition to speculations that she may be pregnant, there have also been guesses as to the content of her letter. Some argue that due to the map of the Netherlands behind her it is possible that she's hearing from a traveling husband or relative, others guess that because of the half-hidden box of pearls on the table, it must be from a lover. Either way, it remains a unique piece, especially because this is one of the only works by Vermeer that does not include corner features on the back wall.
