1908 Ad Saint John's Military School Manlius New York Pebble Hill Horse Polo EM2
The school was originally founded by Bishop Frederic D. Huntington, of the Episcopal Diocese of Central New York, in 1869, under the name St. John's School. In 1881, due to low enrollment, the school was reorganized and renamed the St. John's Military School. Due to repeat low enrollment, General William Verbeck was brought in as President to increase enrollment, which he did significantly within five years. Upon Verbeck's death, the school became known as The Manlius School and was one of the top military schools in America. The Pebble Hill School (formerly referred to as the "Farmhouse"), founded in 1927, merged with the Manilus School in 1970, because of decreased interest in military schools due to the Vietnam War. The school was then renamed the Manlius Pebble School.
