This is an original 1910 color print of an Oriental Inscription rug. This rug has an inscription at the bottom that reads " Pleasure (meaning social or pleasant company) to its Owner."

We're not rug experts, but based on our research we found that rugs that are decorated with repeated linear elements of vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines are generally woven by nomadic tribes that use traditional and cultural symbols in their work. These elements are usually special or sacred and have been used for hundreds of generations. Rugs made with curvilinear and floral shapes have great meaning and reflect their weaver's close affinity with nature. That is why they often times use the medallion motif that stems from the spiritual nature of the weavers. Finally, the least common design of rugs is the pictorial motif. It doesn't follow any rules. It holds a pictorial element in the center with borders around it.
