This is an original 1910 color print of a piece entitled "Papist Wixford." As the story goes Shakespeare was said to have tried to out drink the villagers in Bidford-on-Avon but instead fell asleep under a tree. When morning came his friends asked him to tell of his night and he replied "I have drunk with "Piping Pebworth, Dancing Marston, Haunted Hillboro, Hungry Grafton, Dodging Exhall, Papist Wixford, Beggarly Broom and Drunken Bidford and so presumably I will drink no more."

Haslehust, Ernest William

Ernest William Haslehust (Nov. 12, 1866- July 3, 1949) Haslehust was an English landscape painter and book illustrator who worked with mostly watercolors. He was born in Walthamstow in Essex and studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London under Alphonse Legros. In addition to the work he exhibited regularly, he also designed posters for LNER and LMS railway companies and had his art featured in many magazines. This prolific British painter was best known for his 36 volumes of well-known ÒBeautiful EnglandÓ travel books.
