This is an original 1911 black and white halftone print of "The Chruch of the Ancient Town of Chiapa de Corzo, State of Chiapas." Occupied since 1400 BCE, Chiapa de Corzo, Mexico is an important archeological site. In 1528, it was the site of the first Spanish city founded in Chiapas. The Spanish,however, quikcly moved into the mountains to found what is now San Cristóbal de las Casas, leaving Chiapa to the indigenous population and the Dominican friars, whom built the church in this image. The current name of the town is a combination of its historic name combined with the name of a Liberal politician, Angel Albino Corzo.
