This is an original 1912 halftone print of Wizard Island on Crater Lake in Crater Lake National Park of Oregon.

Wizard Island is a volcanic cinder cone situated on Crater Lake, which was named by Will G. Steel in 1885. Tourism and travel to Wizard Island is only available during the Summer months.

Crater Lake was formed when the stratovolcano of Mount Mazama erupted almost 8,000 years ago. Today, Crater Lake ranks in as the 7th deepest lake in the world, reaching almost 2,000 feet in depth. The lake is also the largest in the United States and the second deepest on the North American continent, which is extremely impressive considering the lake is deprived of any outside waterways. In fact, the water in the basin is made up of only rain and melted snow and is only replenished around every 250 years. Crater Lake is also home to the "Old Man of the Lake," which is a large tree that has been bobbing vertically in the lake for over a century. The tree has remained almost perfectly preserved due to the frigid water temperatures.
