This is an original 1913 black and white halftone print of members of the English Royal Embassy in Paris, France observing the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre on August 23, 1572 CE. During the six days of violence, Roman Catholic mobs slaughtered between 5,000-30,000 Protestants in the streets. The massacre was believed to have been instigated by French Queen, Catherine de Medici.
