"Miss Clara Dow"

This is an original 1914 black and white halftone print portrait of Miss Clara Dow. Miss Dow was an English operatic soprano and actress of the early twentieth century. After a concert career, she appeared at the Savoy Theatre in the first repertory seasons of Gilbert and Sullivan operas mounted by the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company. She is remembered as one of the last principal sopranos personally trained by W. S. Gilbert at the Savoy.

The creative Victorian-era collaboration between librettist, W. S. Gilbert, and the composer, Arthur Sullivan, resulted in the production of fourteen comic operas produced at the Savoy Theatre in London's West End, many of which are still produced today.
