This is an original 1914 black and white halftone print portrait of Mr. George Grossmith. Grossmith was an English comedian, writer, composer, actor and singer whose career spanned four decades. He created a series of nine memorable characters in the comic operas of Gilbert and Sullivan including the Major-General in The Pirates of Penzance and Ko-Ko in The Mikado.

The creative Victorian-era collaboration between librettist, W. S. Gilbert, and the composer, Arthur Sullivan, resulted in the production of fourteen comic operas produced at the Savoy Theatre in London's West End, many of which are still produced today.
