This is an original 1916 color print of a watercolor painting by Charles Duvent of the ruins of the town of Thann, Alsace, France during World War I.

Founded by ƒdouard Charton, the first issue was published on March 4, 1843. The magazine ceased publication in 1944. L'Illustration was known for its extensive use of beautiful illustrative material as well as for its articles. The illustrated pieces represent some of the finest quality printing from that eraÐÐusing as many as a dozen unique inks, metallic inks, emboss and deboss dies, and they were printed on a variety of the finest textured and untextured papers. Much sought after by collectors, these prints and covers are eminently suitable for framing.
