1918 Collotype Heavely Ladder Christ John Baptist Hell Monk Monastery Mt XAEA3

This is an original 1918 monochrome collotype that depicts the ladder of Saint John Climacus. The ladder is a representation of the thirty steps John thought should be taken to prepare spiritually for God. Christ, the Virgin and John the Baptist wait at the top to receive monks into heaven, while those who did not take the ladder fall into hell. At the base, St. John Climacus preaches outside the monastery on Mount Sinai.
