This is an original 1922 halftone print of the Piazza Del Popolo, which was named for the poplar trees that surrounded the Mausoleum of Augustus. The Piazza del Popolo is the largest square in Rome. In its center is the Egyptian obelisk, which is made of red granite and contains four marble lion statue fountains at its base. It was originally erected in the Circus Maximus in 10 B. C. to commemorate Octavius' defeat of Antony and Cleopatra, and was dedicated to the sun. It was relocated to its present position in 1589.
