This is an original 1922 sepia rotogravure of a demolished French army tank in Regnieville, France (Republique Française) after running over a German land mine. Also shown in the rotogravure is a land mine with its cover removed, an anti-tank rifle, and deep pits used by the Germans to swallow tanks. The caption for the latter image writes, "Deep pits so arranged as to look shallow and thus entice tanks to cross them and be engulfed. These devices were extensively used in the last German retreat to retard the advance of the Allies, who were in close pursuit."
