This is an original 1923 four-page color print set (four single-sided pages) of busy life on the River Nile. In the first image, Mehenkwetre is dining in his cabin while traveling the waters of the celestial Nile, just as he used to do when he was still living. The kitchen tender was brought alongside to deliver the food. In the second image you see canoes that have been made by binding together bundles of reed, coated with pitch. the seine-net between the two holds their haul of fish. The third image shows a speedy vessel propelled by 16 oarsmen who kept stroke while looking forward, instead of backwards like in modern times. The last image shows the "look-out" standing on the bow, taking soundings and guarding against collision. The man at the stern was in charge of the big steering paddle.
