This is an original 1924 4 page black and white print article (two double-sided pages) entitled "A Propos d'Enseignes" ("On the Subject of Signs"). Written by R.-L. Dupuy, it is a social commentary on the innovative way that out-of-work artists slid into commercial careers and infused life into advertising. Using visual and verbal puns, plays on words and rib-tickling imagery, they captivated the attention of potential customers long enough to make an impression. The article is on the two outer pages, with specific examples of the signage displayed in the two center pages.

Please be sure to view the additional images, especially the sign for S. Bertin's hair curling shop "Au Hérisson Frisé" ("The Hedgehog with Curls"). Please also be aware that this article is in French.
