Holyrood Palace is the official residence of the monarch in Scotland. The room adjoining Queen Mary's bedchamber was where David Riccio, private secretary of Mary, Queen of Scots, was murdered by Mary's husband, Lord Darnley (King Henry, King Consort of Scotland).
