These are two original 1934 halftone prints of workers in the rice fields. The top print shows women setting out young rice plants. It is said that it is customary for this work to be done by women only, or the crop would not be fruitful. The second print shows plowing of a mountain rice field with water buffaloes. The plow man sings to the buffalo which keeps the animals working contentedly all day.
