This is an original 1934 halftone print of Sion, Switzerland and depicts the two famous hills near the town. The Valère Basilica is pictured on top of the hill on the right side. The Château de Tourbillon is shown on the left hill and is currently in a state of ruins due to a fire in 1788. The church (Notre-Dame de Valère) was constructed during the 12th and 13th centuries.

Period Paper has obtained this exclusive collection of rare halftone prints from a journey taken by Philip Gibbs, who traveled through Switzerland, France, Hungary, Austria, Italy and the Saar during the spring and summer months of 1934. The illustrations were crafted by E. Lander, who portrayed scenes in Moret, Vezelay, Paris, Sens, Stuttgart, Avallon and others. Additional illustrations included that of a labor camp in Munich, cityscapes, churches and cathedrals, as well as scenes of the rise of the malicious German military prior to the onset of World War II.
