This is an original 1935 halftone print of Fram, the three-masted schooner which is said to have gone both further north and further south than any other wooden ship, as it was used by Fridtjof Nansen on expeditions to both the the Arctic and Antarctica. Shipwright Colin Archer designed her specifically to be able to withstand the cold, and the pressure from the ice. As a result, the ship was both very wide and very shallow.
