This is an original 1941 halftone print of a man driving a truck on the Burma Road, or the Mien-Tien Lu. The road is 717 miles long and sweeps back and forth through mountain country. The section between Burma and Kunming were built during the Second Sino-Japanese War in 1937 by Chinese laborers. The road had a role in World War II, as the British used the road to transport military materials to China (Burma was under British rule at the time).
