This is an original 1941 halftone print of workers unpacking electrodes for alloy-steel furnaces from Carbide's Acheson Graphite furnaces. The furnaces heated up to 5,400¡ Fahrenheit to turn carbon blanks into graphite. At the time of this image, the Union Carbide and Carbon Corporation owned 179 plants, six mines and six laboratories.
