This is an original 1941 color print of the Vought OS2U-1. The caption begins, "Most planes are built for great performance. A navy observation-scout type, this one serves merely as an elevated lookout post for range spotting, short-range scouting, and so on. It is the observer who must 'perform.' Fitted with pontoons and launched by catapult, planes of this general type can be based aboard battleships and cruisers. All others are based on carriers or land."
