This is an original 1942 halftone print of a family at the Dedication of Eternal Light to commemorate Lidice, Czech Republic. The village is located northwest of Prague and was completely destroyed by German forces in the spring of 1942, after Czech and Slovak soldiers attacked and killed Reinhard Heydrich of the Third Reich. A new town was built on the site, and was named after the fallen city. Allied propaganda forces commemorated the city, and in September of 1942, coal miners founded "Lidice Shall Live," an organization to help raise funds for the rebuilding of the town after the war.
