This is an original 1944 color photolithograph of the destruction left behind as a bomber attempted to belly land at El Aouina, also known as La Goulette, the port of Tunis. Many pilots had to experience such a landing, as if the bottom of their aircraft were damaged from flak or fighter plane fire, the landing equipment wouldn't always deploy properly, forcing the pilot to land on the belly, usually resulting in a totaled plane.
