This is an original 1945 black and white halftone with a section of color print of the F. F. I. held as German prisoners of war leaving Heidelberg for their homes. The F. F. I. stands for French Forces of the Interior and referred to the French resistance fighters of World War II. General Patch said that the help given by the F. F. I. after the United States troops landed on the Mediterranean was equal to four full divisions, and said that the fast advance of the Allies would have been impossible without them.

"Conad History" (Continental Advance) was created to preserve the history of the United States Army supply forces, and to provide a basis for future studies by the United States War Department. The book covered the continental advance, communications zones, the European theater of operations, and the United States Army during 1944 and 1945. The Conad staff began in Africa and traveled to central Europe where they finished.
